Just because the kids are back in school doesn’t mean that summer is over. Far from it! The days are still plenty warm and the nights are long enough, so don’t start breaking out the furry boots yet! (But, we’re okay with a Pumpkin Spice Latte anytime!).
With Labor Day coming up, you can fight traffic on a last-minute getaway or you could do a few things around the house and make an excellent stay-cation with friends and family. We’ll opt for the latter!
Cozy up in the Yard
Like we said, summer isn’t over yet, but there will be a bite of fall in the air before you know it. That means now is the perfect opportunity to squeeze in as much time as you can outdoors. And without having to leave the house, you can ensure that the last days of summer will be comfortable, fun, and cozy with a few of these backyard amenities.
There’s just something magical about watching firelight dance. Firepits are a great way to get the family together on a weekend or weekday night to relax and unwind after a day of work and school.
If you’re feeling especially bold, you can make it a “screen-free” zone, too, where no one is allowed to take out their phones while the fire is burning. It’s asking a lot, we know, but a crackling fire and the warmth it provides is a perfect centerpiece to have a fun conversation with your loved ones. For added warmth, bring out a few Via Seven peshtemals for the family. They’re light enough for the fall nights but soft and warm to take the chill out of the air. Our favorite firepit peshtemals are Sail Away (which reminds us of amazing summer days!) and It Wasn’t Logic.
Don’t worry if starting a fire isn’t your thing. There are plenty of propane and natural gas fire pit options available these days, so you can simply turn the firepit on at the turn of a switch and not have to worry about getting your clothes all smokey.
Fire pits not your thing entirely? Don’t worry...that doesn’t mean that you need to stay indoors this fall. Another great way to take advantage of the late summer nights is with a portable heat lamp.
These babies pump out lots of heat, so you can still enjoy the great outdoors even when the temperatures plunge as the sun goes down. That means you can enjoy more meals (or another glass of wine!) outside with the family while staying warm.
Speaking of wining and dining, make sure you’re outdoor space is extra comfortable this Labor Day with chic outdoor furniture. The days of wrought iron tables and cheap plastic chairs are gone. With so many unique outdoor seating and dining options, you can be warm, comfortable, and classy!
Wicker furniture with soft, weatherproof cushions are a great way to go. From sofas and ottomans to versatile dining tables, bring your living and dining rooms outside to prolong those summer nights.
If you don’t have any outdoor furniture — or you’re looking to upgrade — be sure to check out your local garden, hardware, or furniture store: Labor Day means sales! If you’re lucky, you may be able to snag some amazing deals on your new patio or outdoor dining set.
And if you’re in love with your current outdoor seating situation, that’s great! Add some color and keep your guests snuggled up with any of Via Seven’s cushion covers. Designed to add comfort and style to any room, these cushion covers have tons of personality.
Lastly, add some sophisticated ambiance to your outdoor area with hanging string lights. These come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and they add a much more subdued, welcoming lighting than traditional spotlights or patio lights.
Hanging string lights can quickly transform any outdoor space into an Italian cafe...you just need to provide the vino!
