This month, we are celebrating our 1st Anniversary! Somehow, a year has come and gone, and we at Via Seven are so grateful and humbled that we’re doing what we love one short year later. So much has happened over the past 365 days.
A year happens in just a blink of an eye, yet, at times, some of the things we did just a few months ago seem like they happened a lifetime ago. Such is the life, though! We want to dedicate this anniversary post to our customers and suppliers who have made this journey with us.
A Trip Down Memory Lane
We officially launched on website on May 15, 2017. But as you can imagine, the work started much, much earlier. That, however, is a story for another day!
When the site went live on the morning of May 15, we had butterflies in our stomachs and could barely have anything but coffee for fear of upsetting the butterflies. After the site launched, those summer months flew by.
We did everything we could think of to get in front of people, show them our products, and educate them on the amazingness that is peshtemal and Turkish cotton. We’d grown up our entire lives with Turkish cotton and peshtemal, and we knew everything there was to know about it. But we knew from Day 1 that one of our biggest challenges would be educating our potential customers on the product.
So, we did what anyone who runs a homegoods store would do: we hit the pavement and went to endless industry trade shows and events! When the website launched, we had about 50 different products, all of which we were thrilled about, and most of which we still carry today (unless they’re sold out!).
For every trade show and event, we’d tote dozens of different designs and patterns to show people. In the world of peshtemal, feeling is believing! The super soft, flat-woven cotton is light years different than the traditional terrycloth towels that so many people are used to. We knew that if we could play “Show and Tell” with our Via Seven products, it wouldn’t be long before our orders started coming in.
We also knew that the more we could educate people about how our cotton isn’t processed with any chemicals that may irritate their skin or harm the environment, word would spread that we’re a different kind of company.
Overseas Travel to Meet with Suppliers
While operations were humming along at home, it was also very important to us that our suppliers--the men and women who spend their days making our amazing designs--were happy and taken care of.
From the very beginning, our motto has been Home: Where the Soul Breathes, and this wasn’t meant just for our customers, but we wanted to be very intentional about how we brought products to you. These home visits to our suppliers were not only necessary to make sure our quality standards were being maintained. It was important for us to develop strong relationships with our suppliers.
We believe that giving people an honest paycheck for honest work is the right thing to do. Furthermore, our cause is “Empower Women; change the world.” So, by meeting with these talented women, we felt that we could make a difference in their lives. As it turns out, they’ve made as much of a difference in our lives as we hope we have made in theirs. And we’re just beginning!
Where are You?!
Then, of course, there is the age old question of “How do we find our customers?!” We knew you were out there...we just had to find you! :) All of our research, gut-feelings, and personal love of the products we sell came together with a perfect combination of hard work and luck. As you found us and took a chance, you told your friends, who told their friends.
Before we knew it, there were people tagging us on Instagram with their peshtemal from all over the world! We can’t even begin to tell you the kind of rush that those images still give us to this day. When we see people loving their products as much as we do, we can’t help but smile from ear to ear and high-five each other!
A Year of Empowered Women
Looking back on the past year, it is hard to believe how far we have come. But as tempting as it is to look back on the past and be in awe, we are far more excited about what the next 5, 10, 20 years look like. Why? Because with each year that passes, Via Seven can continue to support women and children across the world. As long as Via Seven is in business, we will continue to work towards social equality, fair pay, and a life free from fear and violence.
We are so fortunate to partner with amazing organizations like Save the Children and Equality now. These organizations, and the talented women and men who work and volunteer there, do the real work day-in-and-day-out to fight for things that we hold very dear.
What does the next year hold? We hope for more of the same! We will continue to bring you the softest, lightest, most stylish, and most adorable peshtemals, throws, robes, and blankets you can imagine. We’ll keep Instagramming sneak peaks as long as you keep inspiring us by sending us your Insta-love from all corners of the globe. And most importantly, we’ll do everything in our power to give you and our suppliers the best of us.
From all of us at Via Seven: Thank you.
